The 11th CIRP Conference on Photonic Technologies – LANE 2020, organized by Bayerisches Laserzentrum GmbH and the Institute for Photonic Technologies, took place from September 7th to 10th, 2020. For the first time in its history of almost three decades, this year’s LANE was held virtually due to current circumstances. On the conference platform, participants had the opportunity to attend live talks, to stream pre-recordings of missed talks, to exchange ideas with other participants via various matchmaking tools or the live chat and to actively contribute to virtual discussions after the sessions. Scientists from 28 countries came together to discuss the latest research results and the potential of photonics for tomorrows production technology. This year’s LANE conference was something special due to its virtual implementation and shows that research and scientific exchange do not stop even in challenging times and that there is always a way to stay in contact. We are very happy about that. We are also pleased about the positive feedback from our participants, which is encouraging. Further information is available on the LANE website https://www.lane-conference.org (05.10.20).
